Elizabeth 12WBT Success Story

Community // Sarah Link // 4 October 2013

Number of Rounds: 7

Kilos Lost: 45

Inspiration to Join 12WBT:

Elizabeth, is a 12WBT veteran, she’s completed a whopping seven Rounds and lost 45 kilos. Overweight for almost her entire life, Liz knew that the only way to succeed in her weight-loss goals was to change her mindset completely – something she had struggled to master in the past, and through other  programs. But changing her mental outlook she has now certainly mastered! Since joining 12WBT her career is off the charts, she’s got engaged…and is now married to the man of her dreams.

Turning Point:

Since Liz started 12WBT she says that everything in her life has changed for the better. But if she had to choose a defining moment, it would be how she could change the thought: “As someone who was overweight for a long time, you’ve got to work on the mind before you can work on anything else. Getting those lessons each week and knowing where you’re going really clears your head so you know where you want be at the end of the Round.

Biggest Motivator:

Liz is a pioneer for the power of the 12WBT community. As part of the Inner West Sydney 12WBT powerhouse group ‘The Pink Ladies’, she knows that the support and encouragement of her group has pushed her and others to achieve their goals. The group started with just four members (including Liz) back in 2011, and now has a membership of 250 ladies! “I think you need others that understand what you’re going through. It’s a 12 week program but it’s also a lifestyle” says Liz. Together they’ve built a place of support, lost hundreds of kilos and made lifelong friendships.

Liz’s Top 12WBT Tip:

Anyone can do 12WBT. I was 120 kilos when I started. I was overweight, I was depressed and I was unhappy. Since starting the program everything has changed. You can go from being overweight to someone who loves life. Anything is possible.

Michelle was looking at your site yesterday and thought I was getting free trial of things, I have just had back surgery and had no Physio as yet, was just wanting to see if I could do any of the things that r on your free trial but it’s seems the free trial has disappeared from my screen. I’m obviously not ready to start your program at the moment and would imagine it may not fit me even after Physio and going thru rehab,it’s it one style fits all or do u tailor your programs for ppl,. Would appreciate your input, before surgery was a gym junkie so was reasonably fit and loved doing it but this is an interruption I didn’t need, because now I’m back to square one with no fitness at all because for the past month I’ve not been allowed past the front door or use the stairs, so now u know where I’m at fitness wise

Hi Margi – Before joining we would ask that you seek advice from your health care professional, especially if you have pre-existing injuries or conditions or are starting back with your exercise post-surgery. They will give you a recommendation as to which exercises to avoid and which ones you can perform safely. We wouldn’t recommend using a trial program at this stage as you really do need to consult a health care provider about your recovery plan.

We encourage you to then modify the Exercise Plans to suit your needs, based on the results of your health professional’s assessment of you. The comprehensive 12WBT Exercise Index is a great resource to help you in your modifications and you can also take copies of your Exercise Plan and options from the Exercise Index with you to your health care provider/s for more specific advice about individual exercises and alternatives.

We have a number of fitness programs and calorie Levels so the program isn’t a one size fits all model. The Move program is our entry level program for 12WBT and this is something you might like to consider starting back with, in consultation with your health care providers once they feel it’s ok for you to start back with light exercise. The exercises in its Exercise Plans are all low impact and low intensity, and the Fitness Program itself is comprised of 4-5 days of exercise rather than 6. The Move program is the perfect program for those people who have never exercised before, haven’t exercised in a long time or who have injuries and/or health concerns that require them to introduce a fitness routine very gently.

While the Calorie Levels are higher for the Move program (as they are designed to be achievable for 12WBTers with a BMI >30) you are welcome to switch to a lower calorie level if you don’t have as much weight to lose.

If your goals include weight loss, it’s important to keep in mind that weight loss is 80% nutrition, 20% exercise so even if you have to modify the Exercise Plans somewhat, by following the Meal Plans as prescribed, you can still achieve a great result.

I hope this assists with making an informed decision about signing up in the future Margi and we wish you all the very best!
