12WBTer (And New Mum) Anna: “I Don’t Have to be Superwoman”

After the birth of her bub, 12WBTer Anna wanted to get back into a healthy lifestyle, so she signed up for our Post Baby Program. She shared her thoughts before she started the program – now hear how she’s going three weeks in!

Three weeks into the 12WBT Post Baby program and so far it’s been a journey of ups and downs both mentally and physically.

On my first look at the program I thought there was no way I could manage the program and felt quite overwhelmed. However, I have managed some small wins so I’ll focus on the positives – the biggest positive being I have lost over a kilo from my starting weight which is driving me on.

IMG_2789Mish’s Mindset Videos have really helped me and made me feel that I don’t have to be superwoman and stick to program like I did before I was pregnant.  Somedays I just don’t get the chance to exercise or I am simply too tired. Equally I just don’t have the time to prepare some of the meals. Anything that requires too much chopping or prep can take too much time. I’ve opted for some time savers such as a jar of pre-minced garlic and ginger instead of from scratch to save even a small amount of prep time – it all helps!

I also have some fall back meal options that I know from previous 12WBT Rounds, such as jacket potatoes or eggs on toast. These can be life savers to prep quickly and easily, and I know I’m not blowing out on calories.

Here are some of my biggest wins so far:

  1. I used the gym creche for the first time and really enjoyed an hour session in the gym. Much to my surprise, I found that I could still run fairly well on the running machine. Even better when I went to pick up my baby he had slept for 40 mins and was happily playing on the activity mat.
  2. I joined a mums and bubs pilates class which is really good fun. It’s particularly uplifting to be around other new mums and their babies while exercising and I can feel the benefit to my stomach muscles already.
  3. I’ve started back at my yoga class, aiming to attend one class a week.

My top tip: It’s hard to avoid the comfort eating at this time as quite frankly I need some comforting. When I remember, I put a banana or an apple in the nappy bag so that I have a snack handy when I’m out. It works wonders!
